A Morning of Hope, Healing and Connection at the Sycamore Hope Launch

By Melissa Pick - 3 minute read

Last week was a really special moment for all of us at Sycamore Hope and Moving On Inverclyde. After months of planning, conversations, creativity and collaboration, we officially launched the new Sycamore Hope website surrounded by an incredible room full of women from across Inverclyde!

Held at The Albany in Greenock, the morning was designed to feel warm, welcoming and uplifting from the moment people arrived. We wanted women from every background to feel comfortable walking into the room, whether they came from local organisations, recovery communities, frontline services, businesses or simply wanted to learn more about what Sycamore Hope is all about.

The morning began with tea, coffee and lots of conversations between women who may never have met before but immediately connected through shared experiences, values and passion for supporting others. There was such a lovely energy in the room from the very beginning and seeing people naturally introducing themselves, laughing together and making connections was exactly what we had hoped for.

Our CEO Bev Thow officially opened the event with a powerful introduction to the vision behind Sycamore Hope and what the platform means to Moving On Inverclyde and the women we support. She spoke about the inspiration behind the website and the importance of creating spaces where women feel seen, heard and supported. The sycamore sapling honour that inspired the project became a beautiful symbol throughout the morning, representing resilience, renewal and the idea that growth is always possible, even after difficult times.

I then had the opportunity to present the new website and walk guests through the platform for the very first time. That was definitely one of those moments where you stand looking around the room thinking “wow, this is actually happening.” Seeing people engage with the resources, the stories, the support information and the overall vision behind the platform made all the hard work worth it!

The Sycamore Hope website has been created as a supportive, trauma informed and women focused space where people can access wellbeing resources, recovery support, and real stories. It was important to us that the website felt accessible and hopeful while still being practical and informative.

After the launch presentation everyone enjoyed brunch together which gave people more time to connect and continue conversations. One of my favourite parts of the morning was simply watching different women from different sectors and walks of life sitting together and sharing experiences naturally. That feeling of community is exactly what Sycamore Hope stands for.

The morning finished with a beautiful wellbeing workshop facilitated by Lorna Mitchell, which brought such a positive and uplifting energy into the room. Lorna encouraged guests to reflect on what hope means to them personally and invited everyone to write their own poems about hope and how it presents itself in their lives. It was such a powerful moment seeing women openly share their thoughts, emotions and creativity in a space that felt safe and supportive.

What made the session even more special was how interactive and joyful it became.

Lorna then got everyone up on their feet with gratitude exercises, movement and dancing, creating an atmosphere that felt full of warmth, laughter and connection. You could really feel the shift in the room as people relaxed, smiled and fully embraced the experience together. It ended the morning on such a high and so many guests spoke afterwards about how much they loved the workshop and how empowering it felt to be part of it.

Since the launch we have already seen such a positive response online and within the community. The support, kind messages and engagement have honestly meant so much to us all. Launching a new platform always feels nerve wracking because you care so deeply about how it will be received, but hearing women say they feel represented, supported and inspired by the project has been incredibly rewarding.

I also want to say a huge thank you to everyone who attended, supported, contributed and helped bring the morning to life.

Sycamore Hope was built with women at the centre of it and last week’s launch reminded us exactly why spaces like this matter. We are so excited for what comes next and we cannot wait to continue growing this community together!
